This is a replica of a Klingon ship seen in some Star Trek episodes.
This model illustrates the topography of Massanutten peak in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. It was created by fusing a surface file of the topography to a base, which created a 3-D solid file.
These pieces were breaking in our manual door locks at JMU. We reverse engineered them using CAD, and then modified the original dimensions to make the part stronger in the critically needed areas. The parts no longer break when using the locks.
Once a part design is confirmed, our lab has software to produce mold core and cavity files from the part file. The core and cavity files can be prototyped, machined, and then installed in our injection molding machines to produce less expensive and higher volume parts.
